How is PRK performed?
In this surgery, which is performed on an outpatient basis, the patient’s eye is first locally numbed using special drops; Then the surgeon removes a very thin layer of the cornea (a few tens of microns) and uses an excimer laser to create changes in the curvature of the cornea in order to reduce the amount of refractive error of the eye (based on diagnostic findings).
After the end of the operation, the ophthalmologist uses a contact lens to cover the surface of the cornea; This lens remains on the eye until the surface layer of the cornea is repaired.
